General

Yellow nail syndrome is a very rare condition characterized by three main areas of involvement. Typical features include nail abnormalities, respiratory tract disorders, and swelling caused by lymph accumulation (lymphedema). The syndrome most commonly affects older individuals.

Diagnosis:
The cause of the disease is unknown. In rare cases, familial occurrence has been reported, suggesting a possible partial genetic basis. Diagnosis is based on clinical symptoms and a detailed medical history.

Treatment:
Due to the nature of the condition, treatment is symptomatic (focused on managing specific problems and alleviating symptoms). This may include antibiotics for respiratory issues, and corticosteroids have also been tried. Nail involvement may resolve without treatment, and permanent changes are only occasional.
