General
Brachyphalangia and hypophalangia are congenital developmental abnormalities of the skeletal system of the limbs. In these conditions, there is always a congenital defect affecting the phalanges of the fingers or toes. In the case of brachyphalangia, one or more phalanges are shortened, while in hypophalangia there is a reduced number of phalanges. Closely related to these anomalies is the term brachydactyly, which is a hereditary malformation affecting finger length, characterized by abnormally short fingers, and the term hypodactyly, which refers to a reduced number of fingers.
Treatment
One option is surgical correction followed by rehabilitation; psychological support may be required if necessary.
